For the 2014 season and beyond, drivers picked a unique car number to use for the remainder of their Formula One career; Vettel chose the number five. However, as reigning World Drivers' Champion, he carried number one throughout the season.

Vettel was also notorious for changing helmet design from race to race, with a different theme each time. On this particular occasion, Vettel played on an old racing expression referring to safety equipment as "battle gear", and sought to evoke a gladiator's bronze combat helmets.

Creative genius for what remains - to this day - one of the most imaginative and visually stunning helmet ever designed and worn on track.

The helmet was hand-signed by Vettel on the visor tear off, in silver marker.
