Description
Olivier Panis is a French former racing driver, who competed in F1 for Ligier, Prost, B.A.R. and Toyota from 1994 to 2004. Panis won the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix with Ligier.
This original helmet was the second lid produced and painted by BELL Racing for the 2002 season (labeled 2002-02) and was used on track by Panis in multiple 2002 pre-season testing sessions. Two of which are documented in official photos:
- Barcelona, Spain, 30 January 2002, third day of testing session for Lucky Strike B.A.R Honda, where Olivier Panis completed 77 laps at the wheel of a BAR 003, concentrating on a Bridgestone tire testing program.
- Valencia, Spain, 07 February 2002, second day of testing session for Lucky Strike B.A.R Honda, where Olivier Panis was able to run 29 laps at the wheel of a BAR 004, his fastest time a 1.15.14.
The helmet was used in the sessions above and subsequently hand-signed and dated by Panis in black marker on the forehead.
