Räikkönen started the 2017 season with fourth in Australia, fifth in China and then again fourth in Bahrain. Räikkönen scored his first podium of the season at the Russian Grand Prix, finishing third.

Räikkönen scored his first pole position in 129 races at the Monaco Grand Prix, to become the sport's oldest polesitter since 1997.

After a fifth place at the Japanese Grand Prix, Räikkönen finished third at the United States Grand Prix and repeated this performance in the Mexican Grand Prix and Brazilian Grand Prix, scoring three consecutive podiums. A fourth-place finish in Abu Dhabi secured fourth position in the drivers' championship for Räikkönen.
